Abstract

The primary purpose of this study is to measure technical efficiency in Thai oil palm farms. The
study decomposes technical efficiency into its pure technical and scale components. The data envelopment
analysis (DEA) approach and farm-level cross-sectional survey data of Thai oil palm farms in 2000 are used.
The empirical results provide valuable information on efficiency levels, and also suggest that there are significant possibilities to increase efficiency levels in the Thai oil palm farms. In addition, scale inefficiency
makes a greater contribution to overall inefficiency
