Abstract
This paper propose a high power factor single-stage electronic ballast for the metal halide lamp which operates at zero-voltage switching (ZVS) condition of all active switches. To reduce the number of switches, a switch mode rectifier with power factor correction is integrated with a half-bridge inverter. An electronic ballast prototype operating at 55 kHz has been implemented to drive 400W metal halide lamp. Experimental results show that the designed electronic ballast has 0.99 power factor (PF), 1.49 lamp current crest factor (CF), 11.40 % total current harmonic distortion (THDi) and 77.78 % efficiency (η) at full load.
